Briefs: St. Pat's parade planned
The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown St. Charles is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 8. Parade entries will be accepted until Friday. There are 90 spots available and volunteers also are needed. This year's parade is sponsored by McNally's Traditional Irish Pub, the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, the city of St. Charles and the Jaycees. Friday night fish
The Fox River-Geneva American Legion Post 75 is hosting family fish fries from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays at 22 S. Second St. in Geneva. Dinners include baked and fried fish, chicken, shrimp, scallops, chicken tenders, baked potatoes and coleslaw. There is a cash bar. Cost is $6 to $9. Kids meals for those 5 to 10 are $4. Police target DUI offenders
Extra St. Charles police officers will be on patrol targeting drunken drivers during a two-week safety campaign starting Feb. 21. Police will put a secondary emphasis on speed and seat belt violators, officials said. The effort is being funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation's "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign. This is the fifth year St. Charles police have participated.
Bridal expo coming
The Hilton Garden Inn in St. Charles will host its annual bridal expo Feb. 24. The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4070 E. Main St. Admission is free. Call (630) 762-6821.
BP school grants available
Area teachers are invited to apply for BP grants of up to $10,000. The A + for Energy program is available to any preschool through high school classroom teacher in an accredited or licensed public or private school within Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. Winners are recognized for developing creative and student-focused classrooms, after-school, extracurricular or summer programs. While these programs must be centered on energy or energy conservation, they can move beyond science to incorporate reading, math, history, geography and the arts. Interested teachers can find out more about the program by visiting www.aplusforenergy.org. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by March 7.
