Snowstorm doesn't stop family from going out for pizza

Steve Fiorentino and his family weren't going to let a little snow -- well, actually a lot of snow -- stop them from going out to eat along Randall Road during the height of the snowstorm last week.

They'd been out all day in their neighborhood on their ATV helping neighbors plow their driveways, and pulling gleeful kids enjoying the snowy day around the neighborhood on sleds.

But then it started to get late, and everyone else went in.

The Fiorentino family was tired and hungry, and they certainly didn't feel like cooking.

So they all hopped back on the ATV and navigated County Line Road through the snow drifts -- all the way to the Giordano's along Randall in Algonquin. They didn't encounter much other traffic along the way.

"My daughter Stephanie loved going down the sidewalks of County Line Road on our way to Randall," Fiorentino said.

They weren't the only ones in the restaurant, which was about 30 percent full that night.

But they were the only ones who arrived via ATV.

The other patrons were quite impressed with their mode of transportation and their determination to make it to Randall Road and the restaurant despite the storm.

The restaurant's manager even snapped a photo of the threesome for the memory books.

"The folks in the restaurant loved it," Fiorentino said.

Snowy deals: If you're like the Fiorentinos and aren't in the mood to cook in this crummy weather, Steve Carlson, owner of Garibaldi's, invites you to try his Randall Road restaurant in Carpentersville.

Every day this winter, he's making dinner time easier, he says, by offering several specials. His most notable, he says, are a 16-inch cheese pizza for $10.99, and a lunch special of two slices of cheese pizza and a drink for $4.59.

Sweet pampering: Just in time for Valentine's Day, Chazio's salon along Randall Road in Lake in the Hills is offering the ultimate in luxury for your feet.

As you sip champagne, and your feet enjoy sweet smelling strawberry lotion, you can get also a chocolate-themed pedicure.
