Many major films shot in Lake Co.

Did you know many locations throughout Lake County have been prominently featured in many famous movies? Among them are:

• "Batman Begins" (2005), starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson and Katie Holmes, was filmed throughout Waukegan.

• "Ocean's Twelve" (2004), staring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon were all over Lake County, including: Bannockburn, Highwood, Lake Forest (specifically, the Lake Forest Bank and Trust) and Waukegan.

• Julia Roberts was the star in "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997), which was shot at the Cuneo Museum and Gardens in Vernon Hills. In the movie, however, the setting was said to be at the home of a fictitious Chicago White Sox owner.

• "The Ice Harvest" (1995), starring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton, and Lara Phillips, was shot in various locations around Highland Park and Waukegan.

• The Amstutz Expressway was featured in "Groundhog Day" (1993), starring Bill Murray. The highway was the back drop for when the road was closed due to heavy snow. The road was also used in the filming of "Batman Begins" and "The Ice Harvest."

• In the movie "The Babe" (1992), starring John Goodman as the Hall-of-Fame slugger, the boyhood farm where the babe grew up was filmed in Barrington.

• In "Risky Business" (1983), which jumpstarted the career of Tom Cruise, scenes were shot in Highwood, Highland Park, and numerous Chicago landmarks.

• "Blues Brothers" (1980), starring the late John Belushi, along with Dan Akroyd, was shot in three separate locations around the county: on the Amstutz Expressway that featured a huge car pileup, at the now closed Sunny Hill beach in Wauconda and along Route 12 in Lake Zurich.

• Other notable films include "Ordinary People" (1980), "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (1986) and "Home Alone" (1990).
