Froehlich stood up to PAC pressure
I was disappointed to read Personal PAC's criticism ofstate Rep. Paul Froehlich, and as a resident of this district, I think that readersneed to know the full story behind Personal PAC's position.
Personal PACis unfairly attacking Rep. Froehlich because he opposed a harmful bill thatthis political action committeetried to force through the Illinois General Assembly last year.
The bill, HB 317,would haveallowed anyone, including sexual predators, to take a young girl for an abortion without the knowledge of her parent or guardian.
We all know that our schools require a parent's permissionto giveover-the-counter medicine to a minor. This bill would have denied many parentsand guardians basicknowledge about their daughter undergoing an abortion, a procedure that often comes with substantial emotional complications.
Personal PAC has a large arsenal of money and exerted significant pressure on legislators to vote for this bill.Paul Froehlich did the right thing and stood for parents' rights by opposing it.
Kudos to Paul Froehlichfor standing up to pressure from special interest groups and representing the true interests of women of this district.
The Democratic Party should be much broader than the extreme positions of Personal PAC.
