Women presented to Polish society

• Alexandra Golota of Northbrook; Nina Kwiatkowska of Park Ridge; Anna Majka of Harwood Heights; and Marysia Szpindor Watson of South Barrington will be presented to the Polish American society by their fathers at the 69th annual White and Red Ball.

The black-tie gala will take place Feb. 9 in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Chicago. This year's mistress of ceremonies is Maria Ciesla of Park Ridge, president of the Polish Museum of America and the former president of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Ciesla is also a former debutante and an active member of Chicago's Polish American community.

Proceeds from the ball will fund the Legion of Young Polish Women's charitable and philanthropic endeavors.

• Vicki Baker, owner of Buffalo Grove-based Gifts of Distinction, was honored, for the third year in a row, as one of the Top 100 Gift Basket Businesses in the nation by Cherie Reagor, publisher of Rave Review Magazine, a gift basket industry magazine.

Baker began her gift basket business in 1990 by making closing gifts for real estate agents. She soon branched out to include personal gifts, fruit baskets and crystal. Today her customer base includes hotels, mortgage brokers, insurance companies, major corporations and individuals.

• Rolling Meadows resident Sandra Yates will serve as chairman of the 19th annual Hearts for Homeless Families in Transition dinner and auction being held March 15 at The Stonegate Conference and Banquet Center in Hoffman Estates.

The fundraising event will benefit Des Plaines-based Catholic Charities' North/Northwest Suburban Shelter Program's New Hope Apartments and feature WGN Radio personality Lou Manfredini as auctioneer and emcee.

Other local committee members include: Pat Cox of Long Grove; Sharon Cuttone, Paul and Beth Grabowski, Jeffrey K. Miller and Ann Marie and Christopher Saternus all of Arlington Heights; Suzanne Dawson and Mary Beth Hartmann both of Glenview; Mary Insprucker of Inverness; Bob Lindeman and Jackie Moyenoof Schaumburg; Nancy Morrisonof Northbrook; Romeo and Catherine Muraof Lake Barrington; Susie Wolfof Palatine; and Joy Wallof Deer Park.
