Area high school artists joining in snow sculpture exhibit

Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Fremd high school students will be represented at next weekend's fourth annual snow sculpture contest outside Randhurst Shopping Center in Mount Prospect.

Snow Visions will run Feb. 8 to 10, though sculptors will begin work on Wednesday. Competing teams will be carving blocks of snow into pieces of art.

While the adult competitors come from all around the nation and the world, it's also a venue for local high schoolers to display their talents.

Schaumburg High School will be sending one team this year and Conant High School will be sending two.

Schaumburg's piece will be titled "Paint the Town." Its sculptors will be Yessenia Busurto, Wesley Grace, Sam D'Andrea and Domenic D'Andrea.

The first of Conant's entries is called "Just Dessert," sculpted by Brianne Sochacki, Jon Rapp, Katherine Liner and James Samargis.

Conant's other entry is called "Shark Attack," by Jeff Gordon, Colin McDaniel, Don Dopka and Garrett Luzcak.

Fremd's entry is called "The Great Escape" and will be sculpted by K Thomas Wall, Daniel Klaisner, Jaclynn Macek and Emily Smietana.

The competition is free to the viewing public. As many as 80,000 people are expected to visit throughout the three-day event.
