'Have a Heart Raffle' to benefit MCC fitness center

The Fitness Center at McHenry County College is hosting "Have a Heart Raffle" to award door prizes from the Fit for Life 5K walk/run that was canceled due to inclement weather last fall.

Winners from the raffle will be chosen Feb. 14.

Proceeds from the raffle will go directly to the college's fitness center to purchase equipment for the special populations to use. Some of the special populations that use the fitness center include Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association and Special Education of McHenry County students.

In the past, the MCC Fitness Center purchased equipment such as the Nu-Step, two total body conditioners and two rowers from proceeds from the Fit for Life event. The Nu-Step is a recumbent stair climber that allows people with limited range of motion to obtain a full-cardio workout while being seated. The two total-body conditioners trains both the lower and upper body and can be accessed with a wheelchair by removing the seats. The two rowers have a higher seat, allowing people with limited range of motion in their hips and knees to get on and off the rower with ease.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and are available for purchase in the bookstore and the Fitness Center at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. For information, call Nikki Lewis at (815) 455-8551.
