Botulism warning

The DuPage County Health Department is warning consumers about a recall of large cans of New Era Canning Co. beans because they may cause botulism. The company is recalling all cans of No. 10 green and garbanzo beans. The cans come in sizes of 6 to 7 pounds, health officials said. The state health department confirmed the cans have been distributed in Illinois. Health officials suggest consumers return the recalled cans to the store where they were purchased. Eastern Lisle break-ins

Lisle police are investigating several residential burglaries reported during the past month. Police on Thursday said burglaries were reported Dec. 27 at residences on Rolling Drive and Jonquil Avenue. Residents on Chelsea Avenue reported similar break-ins Wednesday. In all instances, entry was gained through a broken window during daylight hours. Anyone with information is asked to call Lisle police at (630) 271-4200.

Park district gets award

The Illinois Parks and Recreation Association recently presented West Chicago Park District with the 2007 Best Special Events Award for its annual mud volleyball tournament during the city's Railroad Days Festival. The event, held at Reed-Keppler Park, is entering its 30th year this summer.

Olympian at Longwood

Naperville's Longwood Elementary School will honor the Longwood Leaders at its Breakfast of Champions at 8 a.m. today. The keynote speaker will be Rene Capo, former two-time U.S. Olympian in judo and current Olympic hopeful for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Gallery 200 featured artist

The works of Bernadette Malovany, a member of the board of directors of the DuPage Art League, will be featured next month at West Chicago's Gallery 200. Malovany will host an opening reception beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the gallery, 200 Main St. The program is a cultural initiative sponsored by West Chicago and the Cultural Arts Commission.
