Lutheran school to hold open house

Immanuel Lutheran School and Early Childhood Learning Center will hold an open house from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the school, 148 E. Third St., Elmhurst. Screenings offered for preschoolers

Lombard Elementary District 44 will offer preschool screenings by appointment Friday at Madison School, 150 W. Madison St., Lombard.

Children between the ages of 2 years, 10 months and 4 years, 11 months, will be evaluated in areas of cognitive development, speech and language skills, social and emotional development, gross and fine motor skills, vision and hearing.

Results will determine the child's eligibility for participation in early childhood education programs and speech and language services.

DuPage Opera to stage 'Otello'

The DuPage Opera Theatre will perform Giuseppe Verdi's "Otello" at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Sunday and 8 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

The opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles, and the New Philharmonic Orchestra will provide accompaniment.

Tee off to help One Small Voice

The One Small Voice Foundation will host the eighth annual Warm Up for Summer Golf Outing from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at White Pines Golf Dome, 500 W. Jefferson St., Bensenville.

Guests will be able to hit as many balls as they want or practice putting. From 7:15 to 8:30 p.m., golf pro Chuck Lynch will circulate among guests to give free, private golf lessons.

The event also will include contests at 8 and 9 p.m. and door prize drawings.

The cost is $35, payable at the door. Proceeds will benefit the One Small Voice Foundation, which helps fund research on optic nerve hypoplasia and hydrocephalus at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif.

Kids can sign up for football, cheer

Registration for Villa Park Warriors youth football and cheerleading will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 2 at Willowbrook High School, 1250 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

The league is open to boys and girls ages 6 (by July 31) to 14. The cost is $175, with a $25 nonrefundable deposit due at registration.
