Briefs: New boundary options

School board members in Barrington Area Unit District 220 will officially be presented with options for elementary attendance boundary changes during its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday. The final maps, which are currently posted on the district's Web site at cusd220.org, were unveiled during a community presentation last week. Some parents have raised concerns about their own children potentially being reassigned to new schools and about how such decisions are being made. The maps were developed by the district's community-based enrollment monitoring committee. Following Tuesday's meeting, the board plans on studying the proposals for at least 30 days before making a final decision on any attendance changes. Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Barrington High School.

Village buys land for police

Hoffman Estates has finalized the purchase of land on which its new police station will be built. Mayor William McLeod confirmed Monday the village has purchased the property at 401 W. Higgins Road, with the deal formally closing Friday for $2.9 million. The sellers will be responsible for the demolition of the existing office building on the land. Police say departmental needs have outgrown the amenities at the current station at 1200 Gannon Drive. The building also housed the village's administrative offices before operations shifted in 1971 to the former insurance building that is now the village hall. There are 105 members on the Hoffman Estates police force. A date when the new station could be completed was not given.

House candidate forum set

An education advocacy group will host a forum Thursday for candidates in the 56th and 66th Illinois House District races to explain their stances on school issues. Daily Herald education writer Emily Krone will moderate. Candidates in the 56th District are incumbent Paul Froehlich, Democratic challenger John Moynihan and the Republican who will run against one of them in November, Anita Forte-Scott. All three live in Schaumburg. In the 66th District -- where longtime GOP incumbent Carolyn Krause of Mount Prospect chose not to seek re-election -- the candidates are Laura Bartell of Arlington Heights and Christine Prochno of Elk Grove Village on the Republican side. Mark Walker of Arlington Heights is unopposed on the Democratic side. The forum, hosted by A+ Illinois, which advocates for improved school quality and funding, takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Estates Park District, 1685 W. Higgins Road.
