Alternate teacher certification: An information session on Benedictine's Alternative Teacher Certification Program in Science and Mathematics begins at 6:30 p.m. today in the Margaret and Harold Moser Center for Adult and Professional Studies, 1832 Centre Point Circle, Naperville.
The program is designed for individuals who have earned at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, science or mathematics; possess five years of related work experience; and are interested in teaching science or math in high school.

Night for kids: Children ages 4 to 12 can enjoy a variety of activities while their parents take a break during "Kids Nite Out" from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Feb. 9 in the Dan and Ada Rice Center on campus.
Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, kickball, relay races, basketball, bingo and group games. Children should bring a swimsuit, towel and gym bag with items clearly marked with a family name. A treat and drink will be provided.
The cost is $15 per child per date. Kids must be registered at the door by a parent each night. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and children must be picked up promptly at 9 p.m.

War internee to speak: Roy Hirofumi Saigo, the son of a Japanese-American couple who spent his early childhood in an internment camp during World War II, is the keynote speaker at the 13th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 21 in the Krasa Center on campus.
The breakfast is sponsored by Benedictine and College of DuPage.
Saigo, the former president of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, has been a champion for civil and human rights. Leroy Brown, deputy mayor and trustee of the village of Bolingbrook, also will speak.

Faith and reason: A panel of scholars engage in dialogue about climate change and population growth in "Transformation from the Individual to the Global: How Faith and Reason Can Save the World" from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 1. For details, call (630) 829-6250.
Baseball camp: Youngsters ages 7 to 13 learn the proper techniques and fundamentals of baseball at Benedictine's 2008 Pre-Season Baseball Camp from 6:30 t0 9 p.m. Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 in the Dan and Ada rice Center on campus.
