Wheaton students receive great gift

A gift of vision was given to 30 students from Monroe and Franklin Middle schools in Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200. School nurses Kathleen Schade and Suzanne Vasko coordinated gift certificates for eye exams and glasses with Lenscrafters at Wheaton's Danada Town Square. Laidlaw Bus Company provided free transportation for the students and Subway provided their lunch.

Class Act awards announced

Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn recently recognized students who demonstrate consistent leadership or citizenship that makes Glenbard South a better school community by presenting them with the Raider Class Act Award.

Recipients include Christie Maruyama, Garrett Padera, Keidi Zagorcani, Labrina Bone, Sarah Cacciato, Julie Eburno, and Megan Kramer.

Students are recognized after being selected through a nomination process reviewed and approved by the Raider Class Act committee.

Glenbard West Forensics excels

The Glenbard West High School Forensics Team excelled both as hosts for 600 competing students and competitors at the Topper Tourney Dec. 15.

Glenbard West award winners include:

Dramatic Duet Acting --sixth place for Luke Stewart and Kristin Perkins;

Extemporaneous Speaking -- Madeline Hall, seventh place; Michael Lopesciolo, sixth place; Kevin McFadden, second place;

Humorous Interpretation -- Curt Toulouse, sixth place, and Mark Campbell, first place;

Oratorical Declamation -- Mickie Anderson, sixth place;

Original Oratory -- Phoebe Duvall, second place;

Original Comedy -- Mark Campbell, second place;

Special Occasion Speaking -- Christy Gaylord, second place;

Verse Reading -- Alex McElvain, second place.

Collage exhibit runs until Friday

The Midwest Collage Society exhibit "Layers II" runs through Friday in the Elmhurst Artists' Guild Gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays and Sundays. Admission costs $4, $3 for seniors, $2 for students, free for children 11 and younger and members. Everyone is admitted free on Tuesdays. Not-for-profit launches Web site

Music Freedom, a not-for-profit organization that conducts benefit concerts for local charities, has launched a new Web site at www.freewebs.com/musicfreedm.
