Briefs: Teen charged in bomb hoax

A Hersey High School junior faces a felony disorderly conduct charge in connection with a bomb threat sent via e-mail to his school's administrators earlier this week, police said. Evan G. Loritsch, 17, of 1517 N. Evergreen Ave., Arlington Heights, was released on bond Friday, police said. His next court appearance will be Feb. 6. School officials received an e-mail threat about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Cmdr. Ken Galinski of the Arlington Heights Police Department. The Cook County sheriff's police bomb squad spent three hours searching the high school Wednesday, but no bombs were found, Galinski said. Parents also were notified. The e-mail was traced to a computer at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, a list of users was obtained and a suspect was picked up who admitted to sending the e-mail, police said.

Candidate officially off

The Illinois Board of Elections on Friday officially ruled against Charlotte Kegarise's bid to remain a candidate in the Feb. 5 Republican primary for state representative of the 56th District. An objection questioning the number of valid signatures on her candidacy petition led to the ruling. Kegarise, the Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 school board president, has 10 days to decide whether to appeal, and she said Friday she hasn't yet reached that decision. For the time being, the only candidate in the GOP primary is Schaumburg Township District Library board President Anita Forte-Scott. She hopes to unseat incumbent Paul Froehlich, who himself faces a Democratic primary challenge from newcomer John Moynihan.

Parking rules suspended

Mount Prospect police are suspending overnight parking enforcement for the holidays, starting at 2 a.m. today through 6 a.m. Jan. 1. During this time, residents and guests will not be required to telephone the police desk to request overnight parking permission. Normally, the ordinance prohibits vehicles from parking on village streets from 2 to 6 a.m. The ordinance is being relaxed because the police department has historically seen a large number of requests for overnight parking permission during this time period.
