Christmas trees for sale in Palatine

The Palatine Jaycees are hosting their 50th annual Christmas Tree Sale in the Palatine Park District Aquatic Center parking lot this holiday season. The sale runs through Dec. 15.

Hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 15. The trees are in the lot, located at the corner of Palatine Road and Northwest Highway behind Walgreens.

There are Scotch Pine, White Pine, Black Hill Spruce, Blue Spruce, Balsam Fir, Douglas Fir and Fraser Fir in a variety of sizes, along with wreaths and garland.

An added feature to the sale is Santa's Mailbox. Children can mail a letter to Santa from there and he'll respond. The letter deadline is Dec. 15, and return addresses are required.

Flyers host holiday party for children

The Schaumburg Flyers will hold their annual Kids' Holiday Party from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Alexian Field, 1999 Springinsguth Road. There will be appearances by Flyers players, team mascot Bearon, and Santa himself.

Admission is free and all children 12 and under will receive a gift from the Flyers. There will be kids crafts, stadium tours, autographs and refreshments. Attendees are asked to bring a new gift for Toys for Tots to help kids in need.

The holiday party also will be a chance to get discounts on tickets for the 2008 season. A Flex Plan Booklet, containing 15 undated ticket vouchers for the season, will be on sale for $99; the regular price is $140.

After Saturday, the booklets will cost $120 each until Dec. 21, when they'll return to the full regular price. This offer is valid for reserved seats only and not valid with any other offer.

The Flyers box office will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and normal winter hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (847) 891-2255, ext. 110, or visit online at flyersbaseball.com.

Stock up on your holiday cards

Friends of the Home of the Sparrow holiday cards, good for personal and business use, are available in packets of 10 for $11. Imprinting available upon request at extra charge.

Drawn by a child living in one of the Sparrow shelters, the 2007 cards feature a smiling snowman on glossy white. Purchase cards at local businesses, including Anbrosia Euro-American Patisserie, The Barrington Home Shoppe, and Cricket Classics in Barrington, Dalzell Jewelers in Crystal Lake, and Second Nature Salon and Spa in Lake Zurich.

Aging group offers Medicare help

The Barrington Area Council on Aging is providing assistance to area seniors trying to decide which Medicare Part D insurance policy to enroll in.

Assistance will be available through the end of December at the BACOA office at 6000 Garlands Lane, Suite 100, in Barrington. Seniors and caregivers can call BACOA to schedule an appointment for assistance.
