Holiday lights decorating contest: The winter holidays always seem to bring out the most artistic and creative decorators. Do you believe your decorating skills will thrill? Impressed by a neighbor's efforts? Call in your own creation or nominate someone else for the Holiday Lights Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department.

Judges will view all Lake in the Hills homes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Winners will receive a gift certificate to an area restaurant and recognition on the Web site www.lith.org. Nominations will be accepted via phone at (847) 960-7460.

Winter/Spring brochure: The Lake in the Hills winter/spring brochure will arrive in mailboxes shortly. Check out the various programs available to help chase away winter blues as well as the many activities offered to put a little spring in your step.

Resident registration began Dec. 6 and nonresident registration begins Dec. 20.

For youth

Tater Tot play dates: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department to connect with other moms, dads and caregivers while your little ones make friends and have fun playing. Gym mats and limited toys will be available. Feel free to bring your child's favorite toy.

The upcoming playtime for kids up to 5 years old will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room. Fee is $2 per child for both residents and nonresidents.

FuntastiCAMP Winter Break camp: Do your kids in kindergarten through fifth grade need a fun, safe activity-filled place to go over winter break? The Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department has the perfect place

Meet up with your favorite camp counselors from the summer camp program during your winter break. Play games and challenging sports; make arts and crafts projects; go on a short, local trip daily and have lots of fun.

Registration deadline is today. The fee per day is $33 for residents or $36 for nonresidents. Dates available include Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2-4.

Register for just a few or for them all. Meets from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. No refunds after deadline.

New Year's Eve Bash-Roller Rink Style: Attention all parents looking to enjoy your New Year's Eve plans knowing your kids are having a blast, too.

Let your kids ages 7 and older ring in the New Year roller-rink style. They'll be skating, dancing, playing games and counting down to 2008 with the famous 10,000-balloon drop.

Reserve a spot for the coolest party of the year. Registration is now being accepted through the Lake in the Hills Park and Recreation Department. Resident fee is $25; nonresident fee is $30. Fees include regular skate rental, dinner, party favors and tons of fun. Roller blades are an additional $2. Drop off at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 and pick up at 6 a.m. Jan. 1 at Just for Fun Roller Rink, 914 N. Front St. (Route 31) McHenry.

Kid's Craft Corner: Enjoy special time with your child in making a Christmas craft. Join instructor Deena Ciavarella from 10 to 10:45 a.m. or 11 to 11:45 a.m. Dec. 20 in the Lake in the Hills Village Hall lower-level classroom Skill enhancement may include scissors and glue use, painting, creative and imaginative thinking. Please dress for messy fun.

Class sizes are limited, so register early. Adult participation required. Resident fee is $8 for parent/child and $5 for each additional child; non-resident fee is $10 parent/child and $6 for each additional child.
