Trickster Gallery seeks outdoor artwork
Schaumburg and the American Indian Center's Trickster Gallery are looking for a way to put an obvious identity on the gallery's building in Town Square.
The village's 1% For Art Committee is seeking American Indian artists to design an outdoor sculpture for the grounds of the Trickster Gallery.
Submissions should be reflective of the center's purpose and the artist's heritage.
The deadline for all submissions is Feb. 1.
The selection of work will be based on the merit of the design, past works and successful integration with the adjacent buildings and grounds.
The selection process is expected to take about eight weeks. Finalists may be asked to submit additional materials to help narrow selection.
Artists should enclose six to 10 photos or a CD-ROM of representative work along with a current resume, references and a statement of design intent. They should also include estimated design fees and total project costs for the creation and installation of their piece.

The 10,000-square-foot Trickster Gallery at 190 S. Roselle Road is surrounded by a creek and landscaped grounds, providing opportunities for showcasing outdoor art. The village's Web site has pictures of the center and grounds for artists to review at ci.schaumburg.il.us/vos.nsf/schaumburg/new.
Nativity puppet show:ŒAt 7 p.m. Dec. 15, Christ Community Mennonite Church in Schaumburg will host the Quest Theatre Ensemble's Sixth Annual holiday touring production of "Blue Nativity."
The 30-minute show includes 10 puppeteers playing 28 larger-than-life puppets, as well as a singer who narrates with folk songs and Christmas carols accompanied by a guitarist.
"Blue Nativity" begins with a slow procession of puppets in robes of indigo, violet, turquoise and lavender moving slowly down the center aisle. They -- Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the wise men -- are all part of the show that uses puppetry to tell the story of Christ's birth.
Andrew Park, the creator of "Blue Nativity," says Quest Theatre Ensemble doesn't want to change the message or meaning of "the greatest story ever told," but to tell it in a way that would change how people see it and feel it.
All are invited to experience the Christmas story again in this new way. The church is located at 888 S. Roselle Road, north of Wise Road. For more information, call (847) 895-3654.
Library blood drive:ŒTo help restock the supply of blood at LifeSource Blood Center, the Schaumburg Township District Library will hold a blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Youth Services Classroom.
Several raffle drawings will take place for those who donate, including a shopping spree sponsored by LifeSource.
Sign up by contacting Susan Miura, the library's public relations coordinator, at (847) 923-3120. Walk-ins are welcome as well.
Those who donate must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old and in good physical health and must not have given blood in the past eight weeks.
"This is such a busy time of year, and the weather can be a challenge, but giving blood is so very important," Miura said. "People need transfusions for so many things -- cancer, car accidents, hip replacements, liver transplants, anemia, ulcers and more. There just isn't enough to go around, and taking part in this simple process will mean the world to someone who needs it."
