Football

Flames victory: The Lake Zurich Flames Big-10 Heavyweight team finished its regular season with a 24-0 win over Crystal Lake Oct. 25, bringing its record to 8-1.

Both teams played tough in the first quarter and held each other scoreless. A fumble recovery by Declan McGarry in the second quarter set up the first touchdown for Lake Zurich, a 7-yard run by Andrew Lehtinen. The offense continued to put points on the board with a 38-yard run by quarterback Zack Till to finish the half. A 6-yard run by Mark Weber early in the third quarter brought the score to 18-0.

The offensive line of Zach Strimel, Jack Sweeney and Adam Cantwell provided time for Till to complete passes to Sean Eder, Jeff O'Brien and Jack Lynn, and created holes for running backs Michael Rantis, Tyler Brandt, Weber and Lehtinen. Great blocking by the offense allowed Rantis to turn a broken play into a 19-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 24-0 in the fourth quarter.

The defense played well again, holding Crystal Lake scoreless throughout the game. Tackles by Mike Sheilds, Zach Johnson, Carl Miller and McGarry resulted in negative yards for Crystal Lake. Dominick Frelas, Evan Williams, Jimmy Bohn and O'Brien contributed tackles to stop Crystal Lake from reaching the end zone. Taylor Coleman batted down a pass and Jack Lynn had a game-ending interception.

The Lake Zurich Flames Big-10 Heavyweight team, coached by Steve Bohn, Vince Gullo, Don Grambo, Mark Till, K.C. Williams and Pat Lynn, advanced to the playoff rounds.
