Libertyville resident Dr. Sandra E. Burke was elected to serve on the American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate board of directors. As a board member, Burke will help oversee the association's efforts in the 11-state affiliate and focus on the lifesaving mission of the association through the determination of priorities and the oversight of all issues and initiatives. Burke is the director, cardiovascular systems research, and a Volwiler associate research fellow at Abbott Vascular, where she develops medications and devices that help maintain blood flow in patients with coronary artery disease.

Rational USA, Schaumburg, the creator of the SelfCooking Center, appointed Paul Ziemann of McHenry head of customer service. Ziemann, who will manage the inside sales team and have primary inventory control responsibility, previously served as a client manager in the benefits center of Hewitt Associates, Lincolnshire.

Northern Trust, Lake Forest, appointed Jennifer Z. Brooks to vice president of private banking for its Deerpath Financial Center. Brooks, who will be responsible for developing and managing financial solutions for high net work individuals and families, has 18 years of experience in the private banking industry, 12 of them in Lake Forest. She joined Northern Trust from Bank of America, where she served as a vice president in premier banking, a division of global wealth management and investments.

Patricia A. Coffey, vice president of distribution marketing and enterprise applications at Allstate Corp., was named to the board of directors of the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. As a member of the board, Coffey, who has expertise in the creation and delivery of strategic technology solutions, will leverage innovative technology solutions in order to enhance student leaning and improve all aspect of its business operations.
