Football
Championship game: The Schaumburg Vikings beat the Palatine Panthers in the Northwest Youth Football League championship game Nov. 10 at Ost Field in Palatine. The Vikings were victorious over the Panthers by a 12-6 score in overtime. The two teams competed in the Pac 10 Red 105-pound division.
The game was tied at the end of regulation, and the Vikings held the Panthers scoreless on Palatine's attempt to enter the end zone in the overtime contest. The Vikings receiver, Tyler Watson, caught a pass from quarterback Matt Jarosz on third down to give the Vikings the victory.
The win meant even more because the Palatine Panthers were the only team to beat the Schaumburg Vikings during the regular season. The champs are known as Red Team 1 in the division. Both teams received trophies from NWYFL officials after the game.
