School holiday

• In honor of Veterans Day, all schools and offices will be closed today.

Elgin High

• On Wednesday, the Elgin High School student-run diner The Clumsy Chef will host its annual Thanksgiving Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 110. It is open to the public and costs $6 per person.

• On Thursday, the band and orchestra will present a combined concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult or $6 per family.

Larkin High

• On Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., the Blue Denim Diner will serve a meatloaf dinner and cranberry upside-down cake for $4 in Room D-74 at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Senior citizens pay $3.50. Carry-out orders can be placed by calling (847) 888-5200, ext. 5238.

South Elgin High

• On Saturday, South Elgin High School's inaugural Artisan Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, 760 E. Main St. The expo is sponsored by the Fine Arts Department and Parent Booster Foundation. Distinctive and original gifts such as artisan designs, crafts, jewelry, wood creations, pottery and home-baked treats will be for sale. Admission is free.

Streamwood High

• On Thursday to Saturday, the dark comedy, "Arsenic and Old Lace" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Admission is $5 per adult and $4 per student or senior citizen.

Abbott

• On Friday, the annual Turkey Trot obstacle course will be held at 2:55 p.m. at Abbott Middle School, 949 Van St., Elgin. The first-place winner in each division will win a turkey; second-place winners will win a turkey breast; and third-place winners will win a pie.

Eastview

• On Thursday, the Eastview Middle School orchestra, along with students from fifth to sixth grade at the feeder schools, will present a concert at 7 p.m. in the Bartlett High School auditorium, 701 Schick Road.

Ellis

• On Thursday, the Honor Roll Breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. in the Ellis Middle School cafeteria, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin. Parents are invited to join their honor roll students.

Kenyon Woods

• On Tuesday, the Kenyon Woods Middle School Jazz and Beginning Bands will present a concert at 7 p.m. at the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St.

• On Thursday and Friday, the play, "Murder at Crooked House," will be presented at 7 p.m. in the commons, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin. Admission is $2 for students and seniors, and $4 per adult.

Garfield

• On Tuesday, the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will provide a health clinic for all children from birth to 18 years old from 3 to 6 p.m. at Garfield Elementary School, 420 May St. in Elgin. Services include: Well Baby exams, school and sports physicals, shots, care for minor illnesses, lead screening, diabetic screening and others. Cash, Medicaid, and Kid Care/AllKids are acceptable methods for payment. Physicals with immunizations are $45; immunizations only are $20. These services are offered on the second Tuesday of each month. Call (847) 608-1344 for an appointment.

Highland

• On Tuesday, Literacy Night will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Hillcrest Elementary School classrooms, 80 N. Airlite St., Elgin. Guests will watch a Webcast of John Lithgow's book "The Remarkable Farkle McBride." Classroom presentations will include: Reader's Theater, Scarecrow Kit and Teddy Bear songs.

Lowrie

• On Thursday, Family Reading Night will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowrie Elementary School, 264 Oak St., Elgin. Special guest readers include Principal Kelly O'Brien, Mayor Ed Schock, and author Thomas Hazel, along with former students, teachers, and other local celebrities. Admission is free but the school requests each person bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a local food pantry.

Washington

• On Thursday, Principal Colleen White and reading teacher Trenie Gorak will read Bedtime Stories from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 819 W. Chicago St., Elgin. Students can bring blankets and stuffed animals, and dress in their pajamas. On Saturday, students who sold 40 or more items at the fall fundraiser, will join the principal for a limo ride to lunch at Old Country Buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
