Condo fire displaces 11 families in Glendale Heights
A number of families were displaced temporarily by a fire in a Glendale Heights condominium complex.
The Bloomingdale Fire Protection District and Glendale Heights police responded to a fire at 415 Gregory Avenue in the Stonegate Condominiums at 9:44 p.m. Thursday. Smoke was seen coming from the top floor of the three-story building, and residents were evacuated from the 415 through 421 Gregory addresses.
No one was injured. The fire was confined to the attic and roof, according to fire and police reports.
Eleven families were displaced, the Bloomingdale Fire District said in a news release.
Police reported that eight units were affected by the fire, including one that was vacant. No further information was available Saturday.
Residents in five of the damaged units went to stay with relatives, and Stonegate management provided temporary housing to two families, according to police.
The Red Cross gave three of the families emergency funds for clothing, food and medication. The Jewel store at 2164 Bloomingdale Road, Glendale, also assisted one family with baby food.
Fire damage was estimated at $150,000. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Bloomingdale was assisted by 10 other fire departments.
