Local Veterans Day events scheduled
The Veterans Memorial Commission holds its Veterans Day Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial, on the grounds of the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 1200 Gannon Drive.
A Veterans Day memorial ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the 2-year-old Veterans Gateway Park, located at the southwest corner of Schaumburg and Roselle roads.
The public is invited to the event, which will be conducted by local veterans and Schaumburg officials.
At Friendship Village of Schaumburg, 350 W. Schaumburg Road, three residents will share their remembrances of the significance of the Statue of Liberty at 11 a.m. Monday. Residents include Kay Schmidt, who first saw it as a 10-year-old arriving in America; Wells Farnsworth, who saw it as a young soldier; and Winnie Christenson, who was incarcerated in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in China as a young girl. Sheriff to provide speakers bureau
The Cook County Sheriff's Speakers Bureau provides speakers to schools, businesses, organizations and community groups in Cook County free of charge.
A program on white-collar crime will be presented by the sheriff's department from 10:30 a.m. to noon today at Schaumburg Township, One Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates.
The program features speakers from all areas of the sheriff's office, who distribute information and answer questions about law enforcement and public safety, as well as give presentations on the Cook County jail, Cook County courts, senior citizen safety and more.

Discuss local youth at Town Hall
The next Committee on Youth meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Schaumburg Township Town Hall, One Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates. The meeting will take place in conference room #114 on the lower level.
The meeting will include a session of the Juvenile Crime Enforcement Coalition for the area. The public is welcome.
The Hanover/Schaumburg Townships Youth Services Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in town hall. The meeting will take place in conference room #314 on the upper level.

Logo contest for 50th anniversary
The Hoffman Estates 50th Anniversary Commission wants the public's help in designing a logo for the anniversary. The contest is open to ages 14 and older, and the winning prize is $500.
By entering the logo contest, designers must include "50th Anniversary," "The Village of Hoffman Estates" and "1959-2009." All entries should be on 8½" by 11" paper or cardstock, and camera ready. If hand-drawn, it must be on white paper with black ink.
