Simplistic beauty
Kelly Hubbard didn't take too many photos that day.
She knows from experience that parade floats look better in person than in pictures.
But she had her camera with her just in case.
Walking up Wakeman Avenue in Wheaton, she was glad she had it.
"I just thought it was just picture perfect ... it captured the moment of a lazy summer afternoon," Hubbard said. "With the girls in their July Fourth outfits and holding hands, it was just right."
Scott Sanders, Daily Herald DuPage photo chief, says the picture has nice composition and the perfect setting.
"It has a Norman Rockwell look to it. They're holding hands, which makes it more personal than just a shot of two kids walking down a sidewalk," Sanders said. "Usually, it is the face that makes the shot in a people picture, but not always.
"It also is pretty clean, meaning it has a simple background and easy to read."
