Neighbors in the news
• Cayla Williams of Wheaton, a sophomore at Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, was selected as the Nationals Inc. 2007 Junior Teen Division 2 Chicago Pageant winner.
Williams is now eligible to compete in the All Cities of America Competition in Orlando, Fla., in December.
Her goals are to maintain her 3.2 grade-point average and to attend either Howard University in Washington, D.C., or the University of Texas to study fashion design.
Williams hopes to open her own boutique and launch her own clothing line someday.
• Colleen McEvoy of Elmhurst, owner of Hair Shapers salon in Bensenville, received the Business Person of the Year Award from the Bensenville Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bensenville.
McEvoy was recognized for running a successful business in downtown Bensenville for more than 35 years and for supporting numerous chamber of commerce and community events during that time.
In her spare time, McEvoy is a motivational speaker, author and active in her church.
• Joseph Schneider of Winfield, a vascular surgeon, has joined the staff of Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Schneider is teaming up with Dr. Nilesh Patel, an interventional radiologist at the hospital, in the creation of a new Vascular Interventional Program. The program is designed to give patients a dual consultation in one visit.
Schneider's experience includes serving as professor of surgery at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He has bachelor and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.
• Karen Troller of Aurora, manager of the Teaching and Learning Center at College of DuPage, received the 2007 Helen Burnstad National Leadership Award from the National Council for Staff, Program and Organizational Development. It's the first time in the history of the award that it's been given to a non-faculty representative.
