Briefs: Warrenville wants a plan
Spurred by developers' interest in the southern Route 59 corridor, the Warrenville City Council plans to formally adopt a land-use plan for the intersection of routes 59 and 56. The city's plan commission will hold public information and input meetings at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and Dec. 4 at city hall, 28W701 Stafford Place. The commission is charged with gathering ideas that will establish a clear policy direction on issues that include future development, traffic, pedestrian and bicycle circulation, public infrastructure improvements, environmental protection, storm-water management, and urban design. Information on the project is available at www.warrenville.il.us or by calling (630) 393-9050.
Parker wins another honor
Naperville's Candace Parker, who dominated the basketball court at Naperville Central High School and continues to star at the University of Tennessee, has won another honor. Check out this week's Sports Illustrated, in which the magazine names the best basketball players ever for every height from 5 feet 3 inches to 7 feet 7 inches. At 6-foot-4, the magazine picks Walt Frazier of the New York Knicks as the best player ever. The three runners-up at that height include Jason Kidd, Cliff Hagan and, you guessed it, Candace. Pretty tall company.
Burglaries picking up
Glen Ellyn police say they responded to seven residential burglaries and 21 vehicle burglaries during September and October. "We just happen to be experiencing a recent spree here," Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said Thursday. Although investigators are looking into incidents and have a couple of suspects in mind, they encourage residents and vehicle owners to lock their doors and keep valuable items stored in non-visible areas. People also are asked to be more aware of their surroundings.
