Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth presented Altieri with the award during a ceremony at the Phillips Carpenter AMVETS Post 66 in Wheeling. Altieri was a member of the Illinois Army National Guard for eight years before he was discharged in 1963, holding the rank of sergeant E-5. The cost will be split with the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District, which approved the purchase earlier this month. The new ambulance will replace one of the village's current ambulances, which was purchased in 1998. That ambulance will be sold once the new one is put into service The village expects to get the new ambulance next summer.

Village wants wider Rt. 22

The Long Grove village board is planning on approving a resolution at the next meeting that will make it clear that the village is in favor of widening Route 22 between Quentin Road and Route 83. Village President Maria Rodriguez said at Tuesday's meeting that many residents have the misconception that the village doesn't support that widening. The Illinois Department of Transportation has recently widened other parts of Route 22, and that 2-lane section continues to be a bottleneck. While IDOT has talked to the village in the past about the road, Village Manager David Lothspeich said the idea hasn't come up any time recently. Lothspeich will also set up a meeting with IDOT to discuss the construction.
