Fleischman, Patriots step it up

Stevenson senior middle hitter Amanda Fleischman isn't sure where she'll attend college.

But she know she wants to study engineering.

The 5-foot-11 Fleischman and her senior setter Hannah Burke sure designed some nice plays Tuesday night at Schaumburg in a nonconference girls volleyball match.

Some nifty quick sets between the two helped Fleischman finish with 7 kills and Burke 29 assists as the Patriots rallied for a 16-25, 25- 16, 25-16 victory to spoil Senior's Night for Schaumburg (27-8).

"Amanda played great," said Stevenson coach Tim Crow, who watched his club finish the regular season at 26-9. "The biggest thing was the quick sets. She did a great job of being up in the air before Hannah even set the ball. And frequently Amanda was able to beat their (Schaumburg's) middle hitters."

"Schaumburg is a good team," Fleischman said. "They looked great in warm-ups."

The Saxons got rolling late in Game 1, scoring 9 of the last 11 points. During the big run, Maggie Kostecki served 4 points, including an ace.

An ace by Fleischman tied Game 2 at 15 and the Pats went on to outscore Schaumburg 10-1 for the win.

In Game 3, a kill by Alexandria Jackson brought Schaumburg to within 17-14 but Stevenson was tough down the stretch again, scoring 8 of the game's final 10 points to take the match.

The Mid-Suburban League champs were led on attack by seniors Gabrielle Blackwell (4 kills), Drewann Pancratz (4 kills), Heather Bolger (4 kills) and Jackson (3 kills, 4 blocks) and freshman Hilary Young (3 kills).

Pancratz handed out 17 assist and shared top digging honors with teammate Aleks Kostka (10 each).

Monica Sanchez collected 5 digs and served an ace.

"The bottom line is that unfortunately we chose not play Schaumburg volleyball on Senior's Night," said Schaumburg coach Jeanette Pancratz. "Stevenson is a good team. We couldn't afford to accept anything less than our best."
