Neuqua Valley (4-4, 4-2) at St. Charles North (5-3, 4-1)

Game time: 7:30 p.m., today.

Last year: Did not play.

Last week: Neuqua Valley 42, Streamwood 14; St. Charles North 28, St. Charles East 26.

Outlook: After a 1-3 start Neuqua is poised to reach the playoffs with a win in this first-ever game against the North Stars, who need this for a three-way split of the UEC title. Last week Neuqua suffered a major loss on left tackle David Bollweg's MCL strain, but the Wildcats plug in experienced Michael Short to help tailback Anton Wilkins gain his usual 166 yards or so. To win what he feels will be a close game, coach Bryan Wells wants offensive balance and a defense that allows no big gainers. St. Charles East can reel them off with running back-slot Nic Higgins and elusive quarterback Nick Neari. At middle linebacker is Jake Juriga, son of former Wheaton North/Denver Broncos lineman Jim Juriga.
