Use screenings for early detection

I am pleased that Gov. Rod Blagojevich has taken on the fight against breast cancer. The expanded Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program will give more than 261,000 women in Illinois access to screenings, and treatment when necessary, for breast and cervical cancer. All women without insurance can now be screened free of charge - what ever your income level.

I am happy to live in Illinois where we are truly making strides against breast cancer. Through my work at Y-ME Illinois, a national breast cancer organization, I see that breast cancer is indiscriminate. It can happen to any woman. Most people today have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another through knowing a relative, friend, or neighbor with the disease.

Breast cancer, if caught early, has a 98-percent chance of being suppressed. That's why screening is so very important. Please tell every woman you know to get screened. Early detection is the key. Call (888) 522-1282 to find out where you can sign-up for the program!
