Wrap-up: Maroons top Hoffman, face Lake Park for title
The Elgin boys soccer team advanced to the Class AA Lake Park regional final Wednesday with a 3-2 win over Hoffman Estates.
The Maroons (11-9-1) will take on Lake Park, which beat Rolling Meadows 3-0, at 6 p.m. Saturday.
"We're excited to be in the championship. Hopefully we can bring home the plaque," said Elgin coach Dave Borg.
The fifth-seeded Maroons, who tied fourth seed Lake Park 1-1 on Oct. 6, have never won a regional title in boys soccer.
Joel Perez led the Maroons Wednesday scoring two of their three goals. Perez was assisted on his second goal by Omar Dina. Dina then scored Elgin's final goal in the second half unassisted.
Osiel Ravadan was in the net for the Maroons and collected 10 saves.
Boys soccer
DeKalb 1, Huntley 0: Huntley (10-10-1, 6-4) was knocked out of the DeKalb regional by the host team 1-0. In the net for Huntley Kevin Montelongo collected 10 saves.
Girls volleyball
Rosary d. St. Edward: St. Edward (14-19-2, 7-7) fell to Rosary 25-23, 25-19 in a Suburban Catholic Conference match. Kristen Haggenjos led the Green Wave with 6 kills and 10 digs. Taylor Barone and Katie Yohn each had 5 kills while Barone had 5 digs and Yohn had 11 assists. Molly Kelly added 7 blocks, while Tess Barry added 4 for the Green Wave.
Leyden d. Larkin: Leyden handed Larkin a noconference loss 25-15, 25-17. Lindsey Casebear had 1 block, and 1 kill for the Royals. Natalie Beaver had 2 blocks and 2 kills, Jessica Harris and Kelli Johnson each contributed 2 kills a piece, while Jacqulin Goodlove had 1 ace.
