Caputo's market coming to South Elgin in time for Christmas
Now that Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market is open in Algonquin, I've gotten calls and e-mails from many of you a little further south on Randall Road, worried that you're not getting your Caputo's in South Elgin.
Don't worry. It's still coming.
But the owners aren't exactly sure when.
Their original goal was to open the Angelo Caputo's Fresh Market, which is owned by a different Caputo family member than the Algonquin location, by Thanksgiving.
But Vice President Robertino Presta said he's now thinking it's going to be closer to Christmas.
"We're still waiting on equipment. It's all ordered, but it's all special-ordered -- so I really don't have an exact date," Presta said.
The new South Elgin Caputo's has also changed locations. Originally the store was proposed for an open lot north of Super Target. Instead, it's going into the old Dominick's store off Silver Glen Road, at 622 S. Randall.
When it does open, it will be the sixth Angelo Caputo's Fresh Market in the Chicago area. The first opened in Elmwood Park in 1958. Since then there have been openings in Addison, Blomingdale, Hanover Park and Naperville.
"We're the originals from 1958, celebrating our 50th year, and we're looking forward to opening in South Elgin," Presta said.
By the sounds of it, you're all excited for the opening of the 65,000-square-foot store, too, so we'll keep you posted on the progress.
Coming to the Commons: Many of you have been wondering what those two buildings are that're going up in front of the Algonquin Commons area, along Randall in Algonquin.
Here are your answers.
Algonquin's Assistant Village Manager Jeff Mihelich said one of the buildings under construction is a multi-tenant neighborhood commercial center.
The other smaller, stick-built building is the new Mimi's Cafe Restaurant.
Raffle for a cause: If you stop by the Taylor Stevens location in Algonquin Commons this month, you can buy tickets to win a custom Aveda gift basket.
The tickets are $1 each, or six for $5. All proceeds go to breast cancer research.
