Search continues for Wood Dale man
Wood Dale police are continuing their search for a 72-year-old man missing from the local apartment he shares with his daughter.
Deputy Police Chief Greg Vesta said Armando Monarrez left his home and was seen Saturday night on foot in Bensenville, near the intersection of York Road and Green Street.
"The person that saw him knew him but, unfortunately, didn't know he was missing at the time," Vesta said Monday.
Monarrez is 5 foot 3 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes and last was seen wearing a black hat, a red-and-gray jacket and blue pants. He was wearing an identification tag on his wrist.
Vesta said Monarrez gets disoriented easily and has gone missing at least twice before.
Monday afternoon, police used bloodhounds to track Monarrez to Franklin Park near I-294. Vesta said the dogs had a "good scent" and appeared to be on Monarrez's trail but he had not yet been found.
Throughout the day, police delivered fliers featuring Monarrez to local hospitals and businesses between Wood Dale and Franklin Park.
As a result of that canvass, one person told police he saw Monarrez Monday morning near Irving Park Road and Harlem Avenue in Chicago, police said.
Police are now searching that area to try to find out if anyone else saw Monarrez, police said.
"He used to live and work in Franklin Park," Vesta said. "That's where he's attempted to get to the last two times he's gone missing."
