Salon, stores want you to think pink to fight cancer

It seems everyone's going pink over at Salon 37 in Algonquin, and it's all for a good cause.

This month, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the salon owners are offering several pink-themed specials, with all of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

To show your support, you can get a pink hair extension strand -- done in either bright pink or a more subdued hue -- for $10.

The extension, which is part of a "Pink Hair for Hope" campaign from SO.CAP.USA Hair Extensions, takes only a few minutes to put in, said Julie Grosse, one of the salon's owners.

"I just thought it was a fun thing to do, something fun that's for a good cause, so why not do it?" Grosse said.

The salon also is offering a touch of pink pampering this month.

For $10, you can add pink to your pedicure. You'll get a soothing pink soak, followed by a pink pomegranate scrub, and then top it off with your choice of pink polish.

Again, all proceeds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

To get your touch of pink, call the salon for an appointment at (847) 658-3737.

Salon 37 is just off of Randall Road at 1415 Commerce Drive, right behind the BP Amoco station.

Helping the cause: Two retailers at Algonquin Commons along Randall also are sponsoring promotions this month to help raise money for breast cancer causes.

For every pair of pants you try on at Coldwater Creek between now and Sunday, the store will donate $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

No purchase is necessary; you just need to "Try It On For The Cure."

Also at Algonquin Commons, Acorn is sponsoring Hope for the Cure this month.

The store will donate 50 percent of the proceeds from the sales of exclusively designed Hope Tees and Hope Jewelry. The money will go to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research and awareness campaigns.

Free music: Stop into your favorite Starbucks along Randall Road -- either in Lake in the Hills or Elgin, and you can get free music.

Through Nov. 7, all you need to do it ask your Barista for the "song of the day" and you'll get a card good for a free download on iTunes, with is featuring specific artists each day as part of the promotion.
