Dance to raise funds for Filipino organization

For almost eight years members of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation met in private homes, libraries or empty offices.

Eventually, about two years ago, they found a permanent home on Lombard Road in Addison.

Now, members of the foundation are hosting events, such as a dance show set for Sunday in Schaumburg, and working to raise awareness of their cause.

"We aim to promote unity and camaraderie among the members of the Filipino society," said club event chair Becky Sy.

On Sunday, the group will host "Indak, Indak Sayaw Pinoy sa America 2007," which Sy said translates to "Move, Move, Dance; Filipinos in America 2007." The event will feature a performance by The Novo Ecijanso Dance Troupe from the Philippines.

The event will raise money for the Addison-based organization and its plans to eventually build a community center in the suburbs.

"We want to be able to have a civic center for the Filipino community in the suburbs, for them to be able to use the facility to achieve their individual goals," Sy said.

She said they also hope to eventually open a children's school and offer social services.

The group hosts its board meeting the third Saturday of the month. For details, visit www.geocities.com/pacfmidwest/
