Villa Park motorcyclist dies of crash injuries

A Villa Park man who was involved in a motorcycle crash earlier this week in Wood Dale has died from his injuries.

Rafael Segundo, 25, of 15 N. Yale Ave., was critically injured about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the 100 block of South Wood Dale Road, police said.

Wood Dale Deputy Police Chief Greg Vesta said responding officers found Segundo and the motorcycle about 90 feet from where it left the road.

Segundo died from his injuries Thursday night at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, authorities said.

Vesta said excessive speed and alcohol are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

A helmet was found at the scene. However, Vesta said, police still are investigating whether Segundo was wearing the helmet or if it was just secured to the motorcycle.
