Congrats to In the Stampede winners

More winner names are trickling in from Buffalo Grove Days, which took place over Labor Day weekend.

In the Stampede, sponsored by Northwest Community Healthcare and the park district, Ryan Giuliano of Schaumburg took the 10K race with a time of 32:23. Kate Reicher of Chicago was the female winner in that race, with a time of 38:31.

In the 5K race, Charlie Kern of Elmhurst won the male division, with a time of 15:19. The female winner was Denisa Cotescu of Novi, Mich., with a time of 18:02.

All four winners won $300 each.

Changing of the guard: St. Mary's school in Buffalo Grove commissioned new members of the student council earlier this year, after the first Mass of the school year on Aug. 31.

The new student council is: David Esterquest as president, Haley Carlson as vice president, Katie Vallorano as secretary and Elizabeth Campbell as treasurer.

The service and spirit committee includes Mary Jo Boehmer, Kerry Cummings, Tori Daul, Langston Fitts, Amanda Giovenco, Victoria Ito, Katie Johns, Damyan Kolomayets, Lauren Lang, Morgan McHugh, Katelyn Mills, Anthony Rengers, Amanda Seidl and Abby Watson.

The new environmental committee consists of Kelsey Banas, Colleen Black, Grace Domzalski, James Fagan, Kelsey Grolig, Karl Kempf and Michelle Klem.

Dance those pounds away: The Buffalo Grove Park District Fitness Center will be offering a free demonstration of Zumba, a new fitness class.

The aerobic fitness is combined with Latin dance beats, although no dancing experience is required.

The demonstration class will be at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2. Call (847) 353-7522 to reserve a spot.

Read and eat: The Olive Tap in Long Grove is helping the Vernon Area Public Library celebrate National Library month.

All through September those who show their Vernon Area Public Library cards at the business, located at 308 Old McHenry Road, will receive 10 percent off their purchases.

Learn to craft: Red Oaks in Long Grove will host a second session of its "Learning Over Lunch" seminars on Oct. 20.

Chris Wagner, a floral designer at the store at 340 Old McHenry Road, will have demonstrations on creating centerpieces, wreaths and candles.

The $10 price includes lunch, and those who participate will get 10 percent off on all florals in the store.

Registration is required for the session, which will run from 11 a.m. to noon and then from 1 to 2 p.m. that day.
