Patriots shut out Cougars
Stevenson was busy scoring goals -- and preventing them.
While the offense scored 6 goals, goalkeeper Phillip Maciaszek had 18 saves for the Patriots, who were up 2-0 at halftime and went on to a 6-0 boys soccer victory against Vernon Hills on Monday.
Six different players scored for Stevenson -- Sam Polzin, Colin Pekovitch, Kiko Malouf, Alex Nadelman and Gordy Gurson.
Round Lake 3, Harvard 3: Carlos Salgado and Caesar Garcia each had unassisted goals for the Round Lake.
Meanwhile goalie Jose Landa tallied 3 saves for the Panthers.
Boys golf
Lake Zurich d. Zion-Benton: Thanks to a 35 by Mike Nutter, Lake Zurich edged Zion-Benton 153-155 at Village Green.
Ben Glatz and Logan Kearney finished with 39s for the Bears.
Garrett Newman and Vernon George each had 37s for Zion-Benton.
Grayslake Central d. Grayslake North:ŒWith town bragging rights on the line, Grayslake Central got the best of sister school Grayslake North, 158-179.
Dominac Maggiore led the way for the Rams with a 38. North's top finisher was Ryan O'Malley. He had a 39.
Girls golf
Stevenson d. Lake Zurich:ŒWith three scores of 42, Stevenson cruised by Lake Zurich, 169-212.
Angelina Kim, Erin Moreau and Alex Kessler all had 42s for Stevenson.
Lake Zurich was led by Amanda Beck. She had a 50.
Libertyville d. Lakes: Libertyville squeaked by Lakes 201-202.
Alex Hein led the way for the Wildcats with a 40 while Lakes' Abbie Horan was the medalist with a 37.
Emily Mason (54) and Emma Schutz (56) both had personal bests for Lakes.
Girls cross country
Mundelein wins: Lyndsay Benedeck and Hannah Glenner finished second and third respectively to lead Mundelein to a victory over Lake Zurich and Zion-Benton at Lakewood.
Benedeck had a 20:39 while Glenner came in at 20:57. They were just behind Zion-Benton's Richel Armstrong, who placed first with a 20:39.
Grant wins: With six of the top eight finishers, Grant defeated Wauconda and Lakes.
Boys cross country
Lakes wins: Ethan Hahn finished in first place with a 16:44 to lead Lakes to a victory over Grant and Wauconda at Henry Horner.
Girls tennis
Vernon Hills, 3 Wauconda 2: Thanks to a sweep in singles play, Vernon Hills got the North Suburban Prairie Division victory.
The Cougars swept all three doubles matches, starting with Leza Xu and Colleen Rhoades at the No. 1 doubles spot. They defeated Tara Busse and Kelsey Seligmann, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Wauconda won both singles matches.
Amanda Merker won the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Stephanie Borgman while Shelby Peters defeated Lindsay Abbassian in the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-0.
Lake Zurich and Prospect tie:ŒLake Zurich settled for a 4-4 tie with Prospect.
The Bears got wins from their top two singles players: Ingrid Brauer at No. 1 and Margaret Boden at No. 2.
Girls volleyball
Vernon Hills d. Wheeling:ŒThanks to 13 kills by Rachael Ramsey and 10 by Brianna Skeens, Vernon Hills outlasted Wheeling, 29-27, 25-27, 25-18.
Skeens also had 4 blocks while Ramsey added 2 blocks and 18 digs.
Setter Kelsey Guglielmi had 33 assists for the Cougars.
College golf
CLC wins: CLC placed first in a six-team Skyway Conference match at Chevy Chase Country Club. CLC topped second-place Waubonsee 303-306, thanks to a 72 from Kevin Skimer.
