Singles club to hold an event Thursday
Single Professional's Society, Ltd. will hold a Single Mingle at 7 p.m. Thursday at Finley's Grill Room, 3131 Finley Road, Downers Grove. The event includes time to socialize. Classes offer help to new home buyers
The DuPage Homeownership Center, a nonprofit housing counseling agency, is offering free classes for first-time home buyers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the DuPage County Government Center, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton; Oct. 6 at Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.; and Oct. 20 at Outreach Community Center, 345 S. President St., Carol Stream.
An additional class in Spanish will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Outreach Community Center.
The classes offer information on mortgages and what it takes to qualify for a loan, finding the right home, negotiating the contract and hiring professional services.

Dance groups meet at Fermilab
Fermilab International Folk Dancing will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and Silk and Thistle Scottish country dancing from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at Fermilab's Kuhn Barn on Sauk Boulevard, north on Batavia Road, Batavia.
English country dancing will continue to meet from 2 to 5 p.m. the first Sunday of the month at the barn. Upcoming dates are Sept. 23, Oct. 7, Nov. 11 and Dec. 2. The group holds a potluck supper after dancing.

DAR to sponsor genealogy workshop
The Sarah's Grove Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a genealogy workshop from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Hanover Park branch of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 1266 Irving Park Road, Hanover Park.
Helen Ollis Palmer, chairwoman of the Illinois Membership Task Force, as well as several members of her research team, will be on hand to give one-on-one assistance.
Those who attend should bring any information and documents they have gathered such as birth records, death and marriage certificates, land and probate records, wills, Bibles and obituaries.

Annual Pow Wow at Naper Settlement
Midwest SOARRING Foundation will hold its 13th annual Harvest Pow Wow, rain or shine, beginning at 11 a.m. Sept. 29 and noon Sept. 30 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. The grand entry parade is at 1 p.m. both days and 7 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors 62 and older and children ages 6 to 12; free for children younger than 5. Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.
The event includes Native American dance and music, food, crafts, vendors and artist exhibits and demonstrations of basket weaving, sweet grass braiding, beading and dance stick carving. Deshka, the American bald eagle, will be there from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
