Police pursue investigation

Schaumburg police are continuing to investigate the accident at the Septemberfest fireworks Sept. 2 that sent seven people to local hospitals. A car drove off Plum Grove Road that evening and struck several spectators waiting for the fireworks on lawn chairs. Acting police Sgt. John Nebl said progress is being made, but the investigation is complicated for reasons that include the vehicle's speed at the time of the collision. No charges have been filed against the driver. No names have been released of the injured, some of whom remain hospitalized, Nebl said. The vehicle drove off the road at 9:33 p.m. and hit at least two trees in the parkway as well as the people on the sidewalk, Nebl said.
