Man accused of defacing school buses
A Chicago man is facing felony charges after Schaumburg police said he vandalized more than two dozen school buses over the summer.
Nicholas Anthony Scavone, 25, of 6433 N. Hermitage Ave., Unit 2N, has been charged with criminal defacement of property, police said.
Police received a report on July 16 that 24 buses were vandalized with spray-paint at the Laidlaw Transit Co. facility on the 1500 block of Wright Boulevard, Sgt. John Nebl said.
Four nights later, Nebl said, police got a second call of two more buses having been vandalized.
Then, about 1:15 a.m. on July 29, Nebl said, police were alerted to two suspicious people at the bus company.
When police arrived and approached the two, they began running from the scene. At the time, police were able to apprehend only one of the two men.
That man, Jeffrey A. Mazzone, 28, of 16 Woodbury Court in Streamwood, was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to property, Nebl said.
That investigation led police to Scavone, Nebl said, adding Scavone turned himself in Sept. 6.
Scavone was released on $2,000 bond and is to appear in court Oct. 22.
