Hampshire tops Byron to run its record to 13-0

Still undefeated.

Hampshire's girls volleyball team registered 20 blocks on the night Monday and came away with a 25-16, 25-15 nonconference win to run its record to 13-0 for the season.

Amber Ladwig and Jaclyn Clai each had 4 stuff blocks for the Whip-Purs while Jena Karkos had 11 kills and Kara Wehrs contributed 16 assists.

Girls Volleyball

Burlington Central d. Oregon: The Rockets (8-2) came out strong against Oregon and dregistered a 25-12, 25-19 nonconference win. The Rockets were led by Kim Ingraham and Stephanie Holthus, who each had 5 kills. It was Holthus' first return to action from a foot injury Theresa Krog also added 4 kills and 3 blocks for BC while junior setter Molly Turk had 17 assists, 5 kills, and 2 aces.

St. Edward d. Driscoll: The Green Wave defeated Driscoll 25-16, 25-19 in Suburban Catholic Conference play. Kristen Haggenjos and Katie Yohn each collected 6 kills for the Green Wave (4-5, 3-0) while Taylor Barone added 4 kills and Molly Kelley had 5 blocks. Margie Haggenjos also tallied 10 digs to help out the Wave.

Hinckley-Big Rock d. Westminster: The Warriors (2-6) suffered a nonconference loss to Hinckley-Big Rock 25-10, 25-21. Sarah Russell led Westminster with 20 assists and 3 kills. Abby Stevenson and Jessica Benson each added 7 kills. Hannah Guge also contributed with 12 digs.

"We struggled with passing in the first game. In the second match even though we played better we still couldn't pull it out," said Westminster coach Guy Lum.

Boys soccer

Westminster 4, IMSA 0: Tyler Beachler led the Warriors (3-4-1) to this nonconference win with a pair of goals, one of which was assisted by Steven Hoeflich. Jeff Marshall also scored a goal on an assist from Brady Huddleston. Jonathan Marshall kept Westminster in the lead as he scored the final goal of the game, which was assisted by Jeff Marshall. Ethan Flickinger was in goal and collected 4 saves for the Warriors.

Streamwood 1, Glenbard North 0: The Sabres (4-6-1) battled Glenbard North in a close nonconference match, coming away with the shutout win. Alex Aranda scored the only goal of the game on a 30-yard free kick. Juan Ortiz was in goal for the Sabres and tallied 5 saves.

Hampshire 4, Marengo 1: Despite the weather the Whip-Purs (7-1-2, 1-1) defeated Marengo for a Big Northern East victory. Junior Makinde scored 2 goals for Hampshire. Teammate Shay Hauck was also able to score a goal for the Whip Purs to keep them in the lead over Marengo.

"Shay played well for us tonight. He is starting to find his groove," said Hampshire coach Patrick O'Brien.

College sports

Two Judson athletes named NAIA Player of Week: In the second NAIA Region VII Player of the Week voting, Judson's Neil Thompson (soccer) and Debra Leganski (volleyball) were each awarded the honor. Both players won their respective CCAC Player of the Week awards and then faced the rest of the NAIA Region VII Players of the Week.

Thompson recorded 8 saves and only allowed one goal by in two matches played. He also recorded his first collegiate shutout in his second start for the team.

Leganski was a member of the Judson all-tournament team tallying 123 digs in 4 matches. She averaged 7.69 digs per game and 7.5 passes per game while recording 39 digs in her first match against Goshen College.
