Professor to speak on being an ally to gay, bisexual community

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, or PFLAG, of McHenry County will present Peter Ji, Ph.D., at a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday the Congregational Unitarian Church, 221 Dean St., Woodstock.

Ji will speak on "Being a Straight Ally to the LGBT Community." He is a member of the psychology faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he developed and teaches a course on being a heterosexual ally to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Ji has published a scholarly article on the subject in the journal The Community Psychologist, and is regarded as a leading expert in the field. He also is the vice president of the Northern Illinois PFLAG Council.

PFLAG meets the third Thursday of every month in the basement of the Congregational Unitarian Church. Meetings are free and open to the public.
