Complaints lead to drug bust in Algonquin
Drug agents and police arrested an Algonquin man Wednesday and seized six pounds of marijuana, a gun, ammunition, jewelry, stereo equipment and marijuana plants from his home and a storage locker, police said.
After receiving numerous complaints about the sale of marijuana from a home in downtown Algonquin, drug agents and police obtained search warrants for a home at 202 N. Main St. and a storage locker at All Safe Storage Facility, 8801 Pyott Road, Lake in the Hills.
Sufiyan Alam, 23, of 202 N. Main St., was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's identification card, possession of firearm ammunition and violation of bail bond, police said.
Police said the six pounds of marijuana seized in the home had a street value of about $25,000.
Police said Alam had previously been arrested in July when he was charged with four drug offenses, including production of marijuana.
"Once a person is arrested on drug charges, it is unusual for them to go back to selling drugs again so soon," said Master Sgt. Tim Sebastian of the North Central Narcotics Task Force.
"The complaints came from concerned citizens, and with the help of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills police, we put a stop to the marijuana sales," he said.
Alam remains in the McHenry County jail and is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing today.
