Pedestrian in fatal crash identified
A 53-year-old Northbrook man has been identified as the pedestrian who was killed after being hit late Wednesday by a vehicle in Villa Park.
Anthony J. Rodino, of Northbrook, died from several traumatic injuries he suffered while trying to cross North Avenue near Joyce Road, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.
Rodino was pronounced dead at GlenOaks Medical Center in Glendale Heights.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Rodino remained on the scene and is cooperating with Villa Park police in their investigation.
Deputy Chief Robert Budig said alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash.
Rodino didn't have any identification on him at the time of the accident.
Paul Rodino, of Northbrook, said his brother likely was "disoriented" at the time of the accident and had a history of mental illness.
"Our family extends our prayers to (the driver)," Paul Rodino said. "It was not her fault. We wish she didn't have to go through any of this."
Visitation services for Rodino are scheduled 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Brook Catholic Church, 3700 North Dundee Road, Northbrook.
Rodino is survived by one brother, five sisters, and 14 nieces and nephews.
