Forum on ComEd response Tuesday

State Sen. Susan Garrett, a Lake Forest Democrat, will hold a public hearing on ComEd's emergency response process. The forum will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Des Plaines Public Library, Meeting Room B, 1501 Ellinwood St. Garrett said the purpose is to learn how outage areas are prioritized and how citizens can get accurate information. River Trails hosts final summer fling

The River Trails Park District will host an Old Fashion Picnic in the Park at 10 a.m. Labor Day, Monday.

Activities will consist of a pet parade at 10 a.m.; an obstacle course from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Tot Town from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; a petting zoo from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; the annual "Trusty's Turtle Race"; face painting; and eating contests. The pool opens at noon, free. The annual Coin Splash will be at 3 p.m.

Henhouse Prowlers play bluegrass

Capannari Ice Cream, 10 S. Pine St., Mount Prospect, will play host to the traditional sounds of bluegrass one last time from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a performance by the Henhouse Prowlers in Moehling Park.

The Henhouse Prowlers strive to play traditional bluegrass. The six-piece band (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and upright bass) focuses on traditional vocal harmonies.

Capannari's encourages everyone to come out for this free concert with a blanket and picnic dinner.

Roosevelt 'Taste' set for Wednesday

The Institute for Continued Learning at Roosevelt University's Schaumburg campus will hold the complimentary "Taste of ICL" at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Alumni Hall, 1400 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Both new and returning members may register for the nine-week fall term, beginning Sept. 17.

Featured will be previews of study group topics "Winston Churchill," "Meeting Minorities," and "Comedy In Music." Other activities, such as the winter lecture series, field trips, social gatherings and discussion groups, will be discussed by institute President Bob Allen. A breakfast snack will also be served.
