Marcial-Lopez, 24, of 322 Dwight St., was charged on the warrant with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He used a false name and was charged with obstruction of justice and was cited for no front registration plate, driving while license suspended and sound amplification, police said. Marcial-Lopez said in court that he was not a U.S. citizen, and Kane County Judge Susan Clancy Boles said he could be deported if he was found guilty. He was being held in the Kane County jail on $1,800 in bonds with court dates on Sept. 6 and 14 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

He also was cited for driving without lights, failure to notify the secretary of state's office of an address change and no insurance, police said. Sullivan was held in the Elgin lockup on $400 bond with a Sept. 5 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.

• A 72-year-old man won a $2,000 jackpot Wednesday at the Grand Victoria Casino. When he went to collect his winnings, he was given a notice to appear at Elgin Branch Court on Sept. 24 instead. The man was informed he had signed himself on to the "banned list" previously and wouldn't receive the money.

• A Elgin woman was accused of fighting with another woman at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday on the 200 block of Locust Street. Witnesses said the women were pulling each other's hair, punching each other and poking each other in the face. One of the combatants, Fannie M. Gaddy, 32, of 450 Center St. #2, Elgin, was charged with battery, police said. She posted $100 bond and was given a Sept. 6 court date in Elgin.

Huntley

• A fire early Thursday caused extensive damage to the unattached garage of a home near Huntley. No one was hurt in the blaze, which was reported at 5:40 a.m. and took about 45 minutes to extinguish. The fire caused an estimated $60,000 to the garage and storage loft above. Huntley firefighters had to call several other departments to the scene to bring water in tankers because there was no hydrant near the home at 11905 Briar Hill Road. The fire appears to have started with a fluorescent light fixture, but the cause is still under investigation.

Lake in the Hills

• A Lake in the Hills woman accused of violently shaking a 1-year-old in her care posted a $10,000 bond Thursday. Heather C. Kierl, 35, faces two counts of aggravated battery to a child as a result of the charges that stem from separate incidents in April and May while the boy was at her home-based day-care center. Police say the Crystal Lake boy suffered brain damage and retinal bleeding. Kierl's attorney, Stephen Komie, said: "She is absolutely innocent of these charges. The whole case rests on the opinion of a couple of people. We expect this to be a battle of the experts." Kierl's next court date is Sept. 11. If found guilty of the Class X felony charges, she could be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison.

South Elgin

• A South Elgin man wanted on an outstanding warrant turned himself in at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Damian A. Failla, 23, of 775 Sundown Road, was charged on the warrant with burglary and criminal damage to property, police said. Failla was unable to post a $5,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.
