Chamber office closes early Friday

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Chamber office will close at noon Friday in preparation for Summer Sunset Festival.

Summer two-for-one sale is ending

St. John's Mission Resale Shop, on the corner of Jefferson and Washington streets across from St. John's Lutheran Church in Algonquin, is a white one room school house built in 1902. The address is 215 Washington St., one block west of Route 31, Main Street, in downtown Algonquin, and has easy parking.

The mission resale shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The "two for one" summer sale will soon end and the fall and winter clothing will be on sale. The shop how has the Tender Hearts Collection of angels by Katherine Stevenson and many knick knacks.

Seasonal donations are accepted only on Friday or Saturday when the shop is open. Call (847) 658-9105 with any questions.

Paws in the Park to strut its stuff

Helping Paws Animal Shelter will hold its eighth annual "Paws in the Park" Walk-a-thon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Veterans Acres, one block north of Terra Cotta, Route 176, on Walkup Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Registration forms and pledge sheets can be printed from the Web site at www.helpingpaws.net or obtained from the shelter at (815) 338-4400. Pre-registration is $15. Registration at the event $20.

Everyone is encouraged to bring the family and the family dog for a brisk walk through the beautiful park. Walkers without dogs are welcome, too.

All proceeds will directly benefit the shelter.
