Suicide Prevention Services of Batavia will have the Greater Illinois "Yellow Ribbon" Suicide Awareness, Prevention and Survivor "Walk for Life" Sept. 16. Registration will start at 8 a.m. in Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave., St. Charles and will head south along the Fox River to the Windmill at Fabyan Forest Preserve in Batavia and back to Pottawatomie Park for closing ceremonies.

All proceeds will go to Suicide Prevention Services to assist in continuing to provide free counseling services, expand programs throughout Illinois and to help raise awareness.

The Holy Cross Church in Batavia Chapter of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is hosting its fifth annual charity golf outing at 12 p.m. Sept. 21, at Mill Creek Golf Club in Geneva. Fifth Annual Wasco Diamonds Golf Outing begins at 11 a.m. Sept. 21 for registration and lunch, shotgun start at noon, 5 p.m. steak dinner at Hughes Creek Golf Club 1749 Spring Valley Drive, one mile east of Route 47 on Hughes Road, Elburn. Cost $500 per foursome, includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, four on course beverages and steak dinner with all the trimmings; individual golfer $125, dinner only $50. Raffle with prizes, silent auction for golf dates at local private country clubs. Wasco Diamonds Girl's Fastpitch Softball is self funded generating revenues from fees, fundraisers and sponsorships. and has players from Kane, DeKalb and DuPage Counties representing over 30 schools.

Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets, H.E.L.P. is seeking contributions for its fifth annual Dinner and Auction Gala planned for Oct. 19 at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. Both a silent and live auctions will be conducted. The organization is hoping for donations from area businesses and individuals. Donations are tax-deductible, and contributors' names will be posted at helpinganimals.org., as well as included in the quarterly newsletter sent to over 2600 addresses in Kane County and throughout Illinois. The money raised from the dinner and auction gala is used to help the many cats and dogs H.E.L.P. cares for while working to find them forever homes. H.E.L.P. supports approximately 600 animals each year.

Geneva Academic Foundation's third annual Mighty Viking Boat Race and Family Festival is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Island Park along the Fox River, Geneva in Geneva.

You can watch as thousands of miniature boats are launched from the State Street bridge and float down the Fox River to the finish line where school and city officials will announce the winners.

While you are waiting for your boat to cross the finish line, you can join in the fun at Island Park with games for children of all ages including the popular dunk tank, music on the sound stage and refreshments. A silent auction will also be available. Items in the past have included a ride home from school on a Geneva fire truck, lighting the Christmas tree with the mayor at the Geneva Christmas Walk, reserved seats for GHS graduation, GHS Athletic Department all sports season passes and more.

Raffle tickets are available for $10 per ticket and the first prize is a Hitachi 42-inch 1080i Plasma HDTV donated by Grants Appliance & Electronics. Second prize for the raffle is $1,000 cash and third prize is $500 cash. Plus, all $10 GAF/Grant's raffle tickets purchased can be used as $50 off coupon at Grants Appliance & Electronics on purchases of $499 or more.

The Geneva Academic Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the educational experiences of Geneva school students by funding technology, services, programs, and equipment that could not otherwise be funded by the district's budget or PTOs. Friends of New Dimensions in Geneva and Friends of Jason Gould:ΠThis group has co-produced a cookbook in honor of Jason Gould, who died in 2006 from complications from a stem cell/bone marrow transplant. The Alice Gustafson School PTO in Batavia is seeking sellers for its annual Gently Used Children's Clothing and Toy Resale Sept. 21-22. The sale features all-season infant through teen clothing, maternity wear, baby equipment and furniture, shoes, uniforms, sporting goods, costumes, books, games, videos and toys. Anderson Animal Shelter is hosting its first Jewelry Faire from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Baker Memorial Church in downtown St. Charles.

More than 2,000 pieces of jewelry will be for sale with all proceeds going to benefit the shelter. This sale will feature new jewelry, antique jewelry, costume jewelry and fine jewelry. With a suggested donation of $5 at the door, attendees can shop through rows and rows of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, pins, and watches. There will also be the opportunity to win raffle prizes.

The shelter provides temporary housing to approximately 3,400 homeless or abandoned companion animals annually. It is committed not only to providing shelter to animals that are in need, but also to eliminating the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals, and doing everything in its power to help curb pet overpopulation through its spay/neuter efforts.

Suicide prevention: There is a fundraiser from 4 to 11 p.m. Sept. 13 at Colonial Cafe, 2036 Route 38 in St. Charles. Colonial will donate 10 percent of all receipts to Suicide Prevention Services.
