Briefs: Sports complex push

Libertyville village officials Tuesday authorized a marketing agreement to boost membership at the Libertyville Sports Complex. The village will pay Kavanaugh Fitness Marketing 28 percent of any new membership fees it is able to attract during the 7-week contract period. The agreement allows the company to establish special promotional pricing not greater than 15 percent below current fees. The company believes it can sell more than 300 new memberships, according to the village.

Pot sale denied

A Lake Villa Township man charged with selling close to two ounces of marijuana to an undercover informant pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court. Kevin Curtis, 21, of 21869 Third Ave., was arrested around 8 p.m. June 19. Assistant State's Attorney Rod Drobinski said Curtis agreed to meet with the informant in a parking lot on Rollins Road and sell 42 grams of marijuana in exchange for $250. Curtis was arrested by waiting police as soon as the cash changed hands, Drobinski said. Curtis faces up to five years in prison if convicted. Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti scheduled a trial for Oct. 15 and ordered Curtis to appear in court Oct. 2.

Meeting rescheduled

The Wauconda Park District's Aug. 28 meeting that was canceled has been rescheduled. It will be held Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center, 600 N. Main St., Wauconda. For information, call the park district at (847) 526-3610.

School budget available

Lake Villa Elementary District 41's 2007-08 budget is available for public viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Administration Center, 131 McKinley Ave. The budget began July 1 and runs through June 30, 2008. A final public hearing on the budget is 6:45 p.m. Sept. 26 at the administration center.

Indian comedic styling

The Hindu Mandir of Lake County near Grayslake presents a Hasya Rass Kavi Sammelan or comedy show Friday featuring renowned Indian comedians Arun Gemini, Mohinder Ajnabi, and Aashkaran Atal. The program includes dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by the comedy show for a $10 per person donation. It will be at the Hindu temple, 20444 W. Peterson Road. CLC budget passed

The College of Lake County board Tuesday approved a balanced operating budget of $78.5 million for the college's 2008 fiscal year. The budget is based on a projected 8.9 percent increase in revenues over the previous year. Local property taxes will account for 62.8 percent of total revenue. Another 29 percent will come from tuition, fees and other revenue. State funding makes up 8.2 percent. On the expenditure side, the budget reflects increases in salaries and fringe benefits and the overall cost of operating college facilities.

Ela splash bash

The Lake Zurich High School National Honor Society and Ela Township host a "Splash Bash" for Lake Zurich Unit District 95 middle schoolers on Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m., at the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center. Kids can enjoy a live band, games, prizes, food, and swimming for free. The event is sponsored by Best Buy, Culver's of Lake Zurich, Ela Township Youth Center, Giordano's, JJ Twiggs Pizza, Potbelly's, Target, and the village of Hawthorn Woods.
