Briefs: Dist 10 seeks new member

Itasca School District 10 is seeking to fill the vacancy created by this week's resignation of board member James McCann. Qualified applicants must be at least 18, a resident of the school district for at least one year and a registered voter. Anyone interested in serving should submit a letter of interest and a resume by Sept. 14 to the Board of Education, 200 N. Maple St., Itasca, 60143. Candidates then may be asked to interview with the school board. The person chosen will serve out McCann's term, which ends in spring of 2009.

Report storm damage:

Addison and Bloomingdale residents who suffered property damage or flooding during last week's storm should contact their village. Both communities are compiling damage information that will be used to determine if DuPage County qualifies for federal assistance as a result of the storms. Addison residents can report information from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Friday at village hall, 1 Friendship Plaza. Bloomingdale residents are asked to call Assistant Village Administrator Barb Weber at (630) 671-5613 by noon Friday. She'll need your name, address, extent of damage and extent of your insurance.

Chorus needs members

Naperville Chorus is seeking new members to sing in its fall concert. G.F. Handel's "Judas Maccabaeus" will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in North Central College's Pfeiffer Hall. Rehearsals start Sept. 10 at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 815 W. Washington St., Naperville. Arrive between 6:45 and 7:20 p.m. for the first rehearsal to register. Choral experience is preferred, but no audition is required. Dues are $30 per person or $40 per family. Members also buy their own music, which is expected to cost about $20 for the fall term. New N. Aurora playground

Fox Valley Park District trustees have approved a $125,000 contract with Aurora's M/M Peters Construction to build a new playground in North Aurora's Island Park. The 10-acre site's existing playground was installed in 1990. The project includes renovating the parking lot and creating a gathering spot for festivals and community events. Work on the project begins later this summer.

'Carol Brady' at parade

Actress Florence Henderson, known for her role as Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch" television show, will open the Naperville Labor Day Parade by singing the national anthem. Nicole D'Ambrosio, a final four contestant on the NBC hit reality show "The Apprentice" this past season, will appear in the parade. Sponsored by the Naperville Jaycees as part of the Last Fling celebration, the parade starts at 10 a.m. Monday at Naperville North High School, Mill Street and Fifth Avenue. It will proceed south on Mill Street, east of Jefferson Avenue, south of Main Street, west on Porter Avenue, and end in the parking lot behind Naperville Central High School.
